I was sooooo shy back then, I could not talk to boys. I had a giant crush on a tall, good looking Cadet. I worked for the Commandant and really looked up to those guys.
There were two teachers who truly inspired me and taught me all I needed to know to make it on my own financially with my four wonderful children (Legal Secretary all my life). They were Ms. Ellington and Ms. Fowlkes. I learned more English lessons in Ms. Fowlkes' class than I ever did in any English class. She was tough - but when I look back on those days and what she and Ms. Ellington gave to me to prepare me for the life only God knew I'd be living, I thank...Expand for more
them in my heart over and over.
As far as doing it all over again - running away to Dillon, SC at the age of 17 to get married - no way. But then I would have missed out on my four precious children - so yes way............hahaha
One of my best memories of our Class was when Diane Lynn Cox was selected as the first Miss Teenage America. When she came back from Dallas, we had the Cadets marching and their band playing, the Cheerleaders were sitting on the backs of the convertibles riding down Crutchfield (I think that's the name of the street in front of our school), and we were all cheering - Oh what a wonderful day that was!
